[해외논단] 유럽 무슬림과 문화충돌

다문화주의가 문화의 부패요인이며 유럽 각국을 분열시키고 있다는 것을 유럽인들이 마침내 깨닫고 있다. 영국, 프랑스, 스페인, 독일 등의 국가 지도자들이나 전직 지도자들은 다문화주의가 자국에 해로운 실험이었다고 언성을 높였다.

이런 지도자들이 과거에 무슬림의 독자적인 생활과 동화의 거부를 허용하고 장려한 이유가 무엇일까 하는 생각을 금하기 어렵다. 본래 사회의 약자나 소수민족에 대한 차별대우를 피하자는 취지에서 주장된 정치적 공정성에 입각한 정책은 항상 죽음과 파괴 및 부패를 초래한다.

정치적 공정성을 전면에 내세운 다문화주의가 주로 무슬림에게 혜택을 주는 데 치중했다는 것을 누구나 안다. 유럽 지도자들은 무슬림들로부터 종교적으로 편협한 인간이란 지탄을 받는 것을 두려워했다. 그들의 공포는 대상을 잘못 선택한 것이었다. 그들은 특별 취급을 원했던 무슬림을 공개적으로 비난했어야 옳았다.

유럽은 무슬림 과격파를 비난하는 대신 무함마드를 풍자했던 덴마크 만평가를 비난했다. 언론의 자유가 외면당한 것이다. 무슬림 이민이 독일의 지능지수를 떨어뜨린다고 주장한 인기 서적을 집필한 저자가 독일 정부의 검열을 받았다.

유럽에 질세라 미국 언론 매체들은 맨해튼 다운타운의 무슬림 사원 건축 발표에 항의한 미국인들이 편견이 심한 무슬림 반대자들이라고 시사하는 기사를 보도했다.

유럽과 미국이 다문화주의를 상당한 폭으로 수용하는 가운데 여러 무슬림 국가의 주민들은 자국 내의 기독교 교회에 불을 질러 파괴하고 기독교인들을 살해했다. 다문화주의가 주장하는 첫 번째 교훈은 이슬람이 평화의 종교라는 것이다.

유럽이 정치적인 공정성을 실천하고 무슬림을 포용하기 위해 최선을 다한 결과 안으로 무너지는 동안 다수의 무슬림은 자기네 종교 및 정치 관습과 전통, 가치관을 유럽 여러 나라와 미국에 적용하기 위해 노력했다.

유럽 지도자들은 무슬림이 유럽의 문화, 전통, 규범, 가치관을 받아들여 동화되도록 장려하는 대신 모래에 머리를 처박는 타조처럼 문제를 외면했다.

무슬림은 서방의 민주주의 가치관을 포용하고 동화하는 데 조금도 관심이 없다는 것이 엄연한 현실이다. 그들의 목표는 이슬람을 유럽의 종교와 정부에 이식하는 것이다. 무슬림은 보편적인 인권, 여성의 권리, 언론자유, 신앙의 자유, 법치 같은 것을 믿지 않는다. 무슬림 과격세력이 생각하는 이슬람은 자유가 아니라 전체주의와 예속이다.

프랑스의 사르코지 대통령은 다음과 같은 발언을 통해 다문화주의가 자국에 미치는 중대한 영향을 언급했다. “프랑스에 이민 오는 사람은 단일 사회, 즉 국가공동체에 동화되어야 한다. 그것을 받아들이지 않는 사람은 프랑스에서 환영받지 못한다.”

영국의 데이비드 캐머런 총리는 다문화주의가 무슬림 테러의 원인이라고 선언했다. 자기네 나라가 걷고 있는 정치적으로 공정하고 문화적으로 자살에 이르는 길에서 벗어나기 위해 사르코지와 캐머런이 강경한 조치를 할 것인지 여부는 두고 볼 일이다.

그러나 한 가지는 분명하다. 지금 멈추지 않으면 추락한다. 그들이 좋아하든 싫어하든 문화의 전쟁은 진행되고 있다.

유럽이 진실로 강경조치를 하고자 한다면 샤리아 율법 및 그와 관련된 술책을 불법화해야 한다. 무슬림 과격사상에 대한 비판을 거부하는 무슬림 단체들에 대한 공공자금의 지원을 중단해야 한다. 정부 관리들은 분리주의를 설교하는 무슬림들을 규탄해야 한다.

증오와 성전을 선동하는 이슬람 성직자들은 교도소에 집어넣거나 국외로 추방하고 그들의 사원을 폐쇄해야 한다. 강화된 이민법을 제정하여 시행해야 한다.

무슬림은 자기네 신앙생활을 할 자유가 있다. 그러나 자기네 신앙을 다른 사람들에게 강요할 자유는 없다. 그것이 민주주의의 법도다. 영국에 가면 영국인처럼 행동해야 한다. 그것이 싫으면 떠나야 한다.

Multicultural rot in the melting pot

Europeans are finally awakening from their self-imposed Rumpelstiltskin deep slumber to discover that multiculturalism is actually cultural rot and is ripping their countries apart.

From the United Kingdom to France to Spain to Germany, leaders or former leaders have decried multiculturalism as a poisonous experiment for their nations.

What's next - is Europe going to rediscover that the Earth is not flat?

You have to wonder how these leaders ever could have signed on to encouraging Muslims to lead separate lives and not to assimilate in the first place. Pardon me, but even a venison-fueled guitar slayer knows that playing politically correct games always leads to death, destruction and decay.

The brain-dead politically correct facade of multiculturalism was primarily for the benefit of Muslims, and you know it. European leaders were scared to be labeled as intolerant religious bigots by Muslims. Their fear was misplaced. They should have been vociferously condemning Muslims who wanted to be treated separately.

Instead of condemning Muslim extremists, Europe instead condemned a Danish cartoonist who poked fun at Muhammad - free speech be damned. The German government censured an author for writing a popular book that claimed Muslim immigrants were lowering the intelligence of Germany. Not to be outdone by the Europeans, the American media implied that those Americans who protested the proposed placement of a mosque in downtown Manhattan were bigoted and anti-Muslim.

And while Europe and America, to some extent, were embracing multiculturalism, Muslims were murdering Christians and burning down their churches in Muslim countries. Let us not forget multiculturalism Lesson No. 1: Islam is the religion of peace.

While Europe was imploding because of political correctness and doing its best to accommodate Muslims praying in the street and whatnot, many Muslims were - and still are - working hard to impose their religious/political customs, traditions and values on those European nations and right here in America.

Instead of encouraging Muslims to assimilate and embrace European culture, tradition, norms and values, European leaders buried their heads in the sand and ignored the problem.

The bold, unfiltered truth is that some Muslims are not in the least bit interested in assimilating and embracing Western traditions, values and democracy. Their goal is taking over and transplanting Islam as the mandatory religion and government. Those Muslims do not believe in universal, basic human rights, such as women's rights, freedom of speech, the right of others to practice their faith and the rule of law. The definition of Islam is subjugation. For Muslim extremists and radicals, Islam is about totalitarianism and enslavement, not freedom.

President Nicolas Sarkozy of France recognized the dire effect multiculturalism has had on his nation when he stated recently, "If you come to France, you accept to melt into a single community, which is the national community. And if you do not accept that, you cannot be welcome in France."

Hear, hear.

British Prime Minister David Cameron recently stated that multiculturalism is the cause of Muslim terrorism.

Whether or not Mr. Sarkozy, Mr. Cameron and others actually get tough and do something to reverse the politically correct, culturally suicidal path their countries are on remains to be seen. One thing is clear, however: Now is their time to stand or fall. The culture war is on, whether they like it or not.

If Europe really wants to get tough, its nations should outlaw Shariah law and all of its machinations. Public funds should be cut off immediately to Muslim groups that refuse to condemn Muslim extremism. Public officials and others should condemn Muslims who preach separatism. Those Muslim imams who preach jihad or hatred should be jailed or expelled and their mosques closed. Tougher immigration rules should be passed and enforced.

Muslims should be free to practice their faith but not free to impose it on others. Democracy doesn't work that way. When in England, act like the English. That's the respectful thing to do. Embrace it or leave.
